Real Model

Over Christmas I got to do some practice on a real person! Most of my styles I have only done at school on a mannequin, so it was nice to get to do a style on a real model. This is a ladder braid done on my little sister. She has super straight, thick, fine hair so it is somewhat a challenge to manipulate into a style. First I put  little hair spray just to add a little texture to help the braid stay as I finished the style. This style looks somewhat complicated but it really isn't. First you decide where you want your part to fall and where you want your braid to lay on the head. Then you start just a regular French braid, letting the pieces fall as you add to the braid. Once you have completed the first braid you make another French braid, using the pieces you let fall as part of your new braid, creating the ladder effect! Somewhat simple, youthful look!

What I am Learning!

This session of class is Permanent Waving/Hair Design. I am not a huge fan of perming but I am really enjoying learning the different curling techniques to achieve different curl patterns for different up do's and such. I really enjoyed hair coloring and although I have barely begun to learn all there is to learn about hair I am starting to feel that hair design/up do's may be my thing. I love it. I love looking at the hair and coming up with a concept/idea of what I would like to create and then finishing the look. Or seeing an idea and recreating it on my own, sort of like a challenge! I have posted several new up do's I have done in my Do It Up section so be sure to check that out. I would love to practice on real people, so if you are near me and would like a nice up do for just a night out or a party or possibly even a wedding please let me know. I am excited to learn and grow my skills so hit me up for some practice!

Model Stylist

Hey!
So at school I was awarded with Model Stylist! YAY! It sort of means if I was working in a salon and not in school it would be like employee of the month. It feels good to have my teachers notice my hard work. I am really enjoying school so I hope they continue to see it.

About Me, Justine

Hello,
My name is Justine and I currently live in PA. I am doing this blog to document my latest journey in a nice, attractive, organized way. I have never blogged before so bare with me here!
My newest journey... cosmetology school. I have been to college before and I loved the experience but once I graduated with a BS in Graphic Design I realized this was not my true passion. I want my passion to be my work, so it doesn't feel like work. So I did some soul searching and turns out, Hair is my passion. I enrolled in cosmetology school in August and I LOVE it. I truly feel I have found my passion and I can't wait to see where it takes me!
A little more about where I come from. I am 27 now and I grew up on a farm in small town Missouri. I have amazing parents and 3 awesome sisters, Family is my top priority! I attended college in Pittsburg, KS at Pittsburg State University, GO-Rillas! In college I met an amazing guy and a few years after we graduated we both finally admitted we liked each other and decided we should date. We have been together ever since. Now we live in PA, a big change from MO and KS but a good one, it is nice to get out and discover new places.
So now I begin my journey to becoming a successful hair stylist and I couldn't be more excited!
Hope you enjoy my blog and let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Justine
